Until the lion has his or her own storyteller, the hunter will always have the best part of the story.

Airport
As you are out of Schengen area, prepare your passports, visas - if it is the case, and your patience for the passport control.
ATM/EXCHANGE
Romanian love Euros and negotiate contracts in Euros, but they always pay LEI (RON). So, you need cash before going into the taxi. For that, use the exchange office or the ATMs available in the airport.
TAXI
The regular taxi fare from the airport to Univers T Hotel (about 7 km) is around 25-30 RON (6-7 euro). The current price used by most of the taxi companies is about 2,3 RON/km, plus a small extra tax for waiting in traffic. The taxi stand is right in front of the Arrivals.
Look only for taxi companies, such as DIESEL 946; NOVA 949; Clima & Confort 943; NAPOCA 953; Terra Fan 944; Pritax 942. Search for the name of the company and the fare on the door of the car.
The airport is within Cluj-Napoca city limits and extra-urban charges should not be applied. The taxi should have a valid badge, a taximeter and you approach the driver, not the other way around.
Please ask for and keep the receipt from the taxi driver. If you are still in the limits of the transport lump sum (180 / 275 / 360 EUR) received in the project, we will reimburse you the costs for the taxi.

Intercultural evening - how to prepare for it
One of the most fun part of the training is the intercultural evening. There you bring some food and drink which will not kill anyone or make drunk the others to fall in love in your culture. In addition to food and drink, you can bring other cultural elements, music, decors or whatever you think is worthy to share from your country.
You can simply serve the goods from your country to the curious participants and/or show them some dance moves and performances having folkloric elements.
***Food and drinks must come from packages, please do not bring homemade stuff, as the hotel has a strict policy on health and safety issues.

Cultural Tips
In Romanian culture, it is very important to share your food… if you are eating, offer to share your food with those around you, otherwise we gulp and believe we will shrink in size.
Eating only soup (not stew) for a meal is usually considered offensively “not enough”.
For every meal, bread is a staple in most Romanian (especially Transilvanian) homes.
If you have a pack of chewing gum, be prepared to share it with everyone.
When Romanians cheer, they say “Noroc” and don’t look the others in the eyes, because they are careful not to spill the drink.
Do not give somebody an even number of flowers (it should only be done for funerals).
Usually Romanians shake hands with men and kiss women on both cheeks starting left side.
The Romanian personal space is smaller – it is an everyday thing for them to hug and kiss.
Places of interest in Cluj
Unirii Square (Piaţa Unirii) - it is the largest and most important plaza in Cluj. The square is one of the largest in Romania and it is a meeting place and events venue. It is also a touristic place because of the Mathias Corvinus Cathedral and Mathias the King’s statue. The square is the kilometer 0 of the city.
The Fortress Hill – Tourists who visit Cluj-Napoca and even locals won’t miss a climb on the “Fortress Hill” (Dealul Cetatuia), in order to get one of the best panoramas of the city.
The Memorial Matthias Corvinus House – It is known as the oldest lay building in Cluj-Napoca, well preserved and having many functions along the time, situated in a nice pedestrian old area.
Spoken languages in Cluj
Most Romanians living in the cities are able to communicate in English.
In Cluj, Hungarian is also used, as Hungarians are the largest minority in the city. Maybe, you are lucky and you might find on the streets people speaking Spanish, Italian, French or German. These are also used languages, mainly in call centers from Cluj, where thousands of people are working.
Romanian has a phonetic alphabet, so once you learn the alphabet you become fluent in reading Romanian. We can practice with you the alphabet once you are here in Cluj :).
